Dancing
There I was, knees quaking with anticipation, hardly noticing my partner, whose knees had been equally quivering.
Just moments just before, our category of the competition was known as early; a well-planned surprise attack by the organizers, I’m positive. My partner, figuring he had a couple of hours just before getting known as up onto the ballroom dance floor, had drifted out into the hallway of the classy hotel to drool more than the concessionaires’ numerous items for dance fanatics. “Novice Latin!” the announcer exclaimed. I whipped my head about to examine him in disbelief. Cold beads of perspiration dotted my forehead as I listened to the numbers of the couples getting known as as much as the dance floor. “#143!” the announcer bellowed. In shock I sprang to my feet, my partner nowhere in internet site. Lastly, immediately after a number of seconds which felt like centuries, my partner raced in to join me. I uttered a sigh of relief but that nonetheless didn’t quell the flurry of butterfly wings in my stomach. I’m positive my eyes had been as huge as the taillights of the most recent Alero! “Cha Cha!” named the announcer. “Cha Cha? What’s a Cha Cha???” the believed passed via my dazed brain. The beat of the Cha Cha permeated via the ballroom as my partner thankfully led me via the dance without having a stumble or with out me passing out from sheer terror. With cold, clammy hands we moved from 1 dance step to a different, desperately scanning our memory banks for clues to the routines we had practiced for the last couple of months in preparation for our incredibly 1st dance competition. “Oh God, please let this be more than soon!” conveyed my subconscious. Lastly, following about a minute and also a half, the disk jockey ended the Cha Cha along with the competitors scattered to come across the great positioning on the ballroom floor for the next dance to be known as.
“And now the Rumba – dancers please take your positions” bellowed the announcer. We waited tensely for that very first beat; I glanced nervously about and couldn’t assist questioning if the other couples felt as stressed as we did. As my partner and I took our very first Rumba step I had the strangest feeling come more than me – a sense of pride at truly getting a good-enough dancer to participate in a ballroom dance competition. We completed the Rumba and as we drifted off the dance floor to take our seats, my partner and I glanced at each and every other. In a fleeting moment I felt his elation; I knew that no matter if we won or not, we nonetheless had achieved some thing that a lot of dance couples in no way expertise in their lifetimes, and from that moment on we would by no means once more encounter the fear of the unknown as we stepped out onto the competition dance floor.
